Mexico’s current president said ex-Pemex CEO Emilio Lozoya is testifying that lawmakers were bribed to pass measures that opened the energy sector to private investment. During the investigation, Emilio Lozoya accused former President Enrique Peña Nieto and a former finance minister of ordering him to funnel bribes from foreign corporations for cases to Mexico’s oil, one of them being from Brazilian builder Odebrecht.
For many years foreign companies backed by foreign governments have tried to open up the Mexican oilfield sector to private companies. It turns out they resorted to bribery for access.
